Thief, foolish, witch, “and they remained blind…”

This short was written using three storytelling cards and one ending card randomly selected from the Once Upon a Time multiplayer game.

The thief had been waiting at the side of the path for far too long.  His partner was late, the moon was low, and soon the city folk would be bustling through.  Good for pickpocketing, but not so good for what they’d initially had in mind.
Suddenly, a noise.  The thief looked up expectantly, but the person before him was not the friend he was expecting.  Instead, shuffling down the path, feeling the way forward with a long stick, came an old man, hesitant in every step.
The thief made his decision quickly.  He stepped out, sure to make noise so as not to startle the man, and called out to him.
“Good sir!  May I assist you in to the city?”
The blind man’s head turned in the thief’s direction.  In a shaky tone he said,
“I know that voice.”
The thief closed the distance between them and placed an arm around the blind man’s shoulders.
“Don’t,” the man began, wheezing.
“No trouble,” said the thief, reaching with his free hand, feeling for a purse.
“Don’t make the same mistake I did…”
“What’s that?”  The thief had found a small bag strung to the man’s belt and was trying to stealthily retrieve it while keeping up his jaunty, conversational facade.
“Don’t do it!  She’s watching, don’t be foolish!”
And they remained blind for the rest of their days for their wickedness and falsehood.
